My 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee takes many turns of the engine to start but only when it’s cold. After it starts it runs well and when I stop will start first time while the engine is warm. It has never flattened the battery until today. Mechanic's Assistant: Will the headlights turn on? Is the battery fully charged? We have tried jump starting it but it still doesn’t start after 10 times trying Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Grand Cherokee yourself? What have you tried so far? I think it’s a problem with cold diesel are there diesel heaters on this vehicle and are there fuses related to them Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? Are there fused fuel heaters

Automotive Expert
Good morning, I hope you are doing well despite the current issue. Thank you for choosing JustAnswer. My name is\*\*\*\*\* am a master automotive technician and would be happy to assist you with this today. It looks like some of these are equipped from the factory with an Engine Block Heater, do you know if this is something your's has? If so, you can plug the heater in overnight to keep the engine warmed up and assist with the cold starts. They also have glow plugs, if there is a problem with the glow plug module then the plugs will not warm-up the engine and will cause hard cold starts

It doesn’t have a Engine Block Heater. I have had the vehicle a Grand Cherokee 2006 from new. The problem is when the weather is cold and I want to know if it has fused fuel heaters it a UK model. Yellow crossed wires light up when the ignition is switched to on.No thanks. I have asked the question and would line a reply
Automotive Expert
From what I am seeing on the diagrams and build options, these were not equipped with fuel heaters. It looks like an aftermarket option is available, but they did not come set up with heaters from the factory so it will not be equipped with them

why the crossed yellow wire symbols on the dash when the ignition is switched to on. This car was made in Austria so I am surprised if it doesn’t have fuel heaters on the fuel intake line and I have not problems when the temperature is above 10C
Automotive Expert
Are you able to upload a picture of the wire symbol? Normally these use the glow plugs to heat up the engine/fuel when cold

I am having my dinner now but I will try in 15 mins
Automotive Expert
Okay great, no rush I will be here for awhile

The dash photo is the blurred but it the bottom yellow symbol but stays on for less than a second and what are the fuses saying diesel only for?
Automotive Expert
How long is it currently taking to start when cold? I just noticed the bottom of the manual says these models may take up to 30seconds of cranking before they start in the cold

It took over that and flattened the battery to day.
Automotive Expert
Olay I understand. It sounds like there may be a bit more going on there, so it may be best to take through a shop and have a full system inspection performed. Worst case i have seen these do similar things when they get low on compression, but you would have had other issues present before this

Ok thanks for trying to help
Automotive Expert
You are very welcome. Let me know if any further questions arise during the process :)

Ok. Will get the AA out to see if they can get it started and then it down to the local dealership. As we are in Coronavirus lockdown it may be I have flattened the battery but not using the vehicle much and then only for short tips and only a couple of times a week. It was Ok in the summer
Automotive Expert
Yeah, that is what I would be thinking as well. I have had a few clients here in the US who are having battery issues after vehicles have been sitting the last few months throughout the lockdown

Still not sure what you need?

Window not going up or down
Hi. This issue is common on Dodge Avengers. A malfunctioning master switch or an open circuit along the lines of your power windows is the culprit. Have a mechanic such as one from YourMechanic correctly diagnose the window issue (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/window-is-not-going-up-or-down-inspection)...
