Q: I noticed driving back from a trip my car was having high rpms while accelerating slower than usual. I noticed my oil was low and

My car towards the end of a three hr drive started to rev when I would accelerate and my rpms would shoot higher than normal. My service engine light came on just before getting home and I checked my oil level. My car is due for an oil change but my oil stick showed I had little or no oil. Is it likely that the reving and rpms is related to the oil level? And will it be ok if I just refill it with oil I can get at a gas station ? Should I have my oil changed?

My car has 183000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Brake noise
Hi there! Noise when braking usually indicates that there is low friction material. There is a little noise maker that will begin to scrape the rotor when the pad level becomes low. This noise serves as an audible warning to...

If it smells burnt, then...

The intake valves may also have carbon...

Car feels sluggish
Hi there: Once your vehicle starts, the job of the battery is pretty much complete. The alternator is what powers vehicle systems while the engine is running; which is possibly what's causing the battery to drain, and the engine to...
My car won't start 1999 Ford Escort
Hello - sounds like you have more than one problem here. The battery drain problem (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/the-best-tool-for-mechanics-to-diagnose-electrical-issues) can be diagnosed by connecting an ammeter to the positive (red) battery cable, observe the current drain (likely less than 1 amp), then, one...

Hi there. Check the ABS controller for any bare wires or loose connectors. What may have happened is the controller could have gotten wet and caused a terminal to short due to the water. If everything is dry, then the...
