Hi. I own a 2003 Hyundai [Elantra GLS](/topics-elantra-gls/). The battery died, and I wanted to jumpstart my car. However, the hood cable is disconnected and I can turn the latch. Mechanic's Assistant: Do you hear a thunk when you pull the lever? Yes. I tried pulling the hood release with the pliers and I heard a little thunk. Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Elantra yourself? What have you tried so far? Yes I'm jumpstarting the elantra. So far I pulled the hood release with the pliers and I got stuck at the second step which was opening the hood. I attempted to turn the latch or supporting rod, but it won't open. Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? Yes. I would like to let the mechanic know that the cable to the hood release is disconnected

Hi! My name is \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* I will be able to assist you. I’m sorry that you’re having trouble with your vehicle. Don’t worry though, we’ll be able to figure this out. Please understand that I do not know your knowledge or capabilities so I **may** need to ask questions to find out basic information to help solve your specific problem. Sometimes it may take a moment for me to respond because I may have to look up information about your concern. I appreciate your patience and will provide responses as soon as possible. You will need to repeatedly pull on the hood release cable with your pliers while someone is thumping the hood with their fist. They will need to thump it in the center, front of the hood. By doing this repeatedly, it should allow the hood to pop open. If it doesn't then you will have to get to the latch from under the vehicle and use some needle nose pliers or a screwdriver to manually release the latch. You will have to move the lever that the cable is connected to. Once you get it open, make sure that you use some lubricating oil to spray on the latch to keep it from getting it stuck again. My goal is to earn a 5 star rating experience. If you have any further questions about this concern, please feel free to reply back to me. If I’m not online at the time, I will respond ASAP when I get back. Thanks for being awesome and thank you for using JustAnswer!

The first thing that needs to be done is to scan the vehicle for all codes (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/what-is-the-on-board-diagnostics-obd-system). Since the overdrive light is flashing, a simple code reader from your local parts store will not likely be of any help. Code...
Brake pedal goes to the floor when the engine is on
The first thing you'd want to do of course is pull off all the wheels and look for the leaks. But if you have no leaks, yours is the classic sign of a bad brake booster (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-power-brake-booster). When brake boosters...
Brake Too Low of a force and pedal goes to the floor easy.

This may be a sign of a faulty MAP sensor as the vehicle responds adversely to a load put on the motor (i.e. putting it in gear, turning on AC or engaging the brakes). The Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor...
New radiator, which was installed incorrectly and overheated my car. Now my alternator is going out could this be related?
Overheating can damage many engine components such as the thermostat, crankshaft position sensor, and so forth. Overheating does damage alternators but the overheating in alternators is typically caused by electrical overloads, that is too much current flowing through the alternator....
Why wont my transmission go into fifth gear for my 40 volvo
This may suggest the transmission synchros may be wearing out. Your transmission has small gear synchronizer rings that help to move the transmission in and out of the various gears. When these begin to wear out, you may notice it...
There is a rattling noise on the passenger side of my stick shift VW Jetta.
Hi Katie. Thanks for contacting us tonight. A consistent rattle like you've described is typically caused by a loose exhaust bracket - which tends to occur when a car is older than 10 years old just due to normal wear...
