Q: Oil smell

Hi my car been running fine and smooth until yesterday afternoon I noticed a noise while driving on the freeway than it stop on me ...it wasn't smoking or anything it just had a bad smell while trying to start it back up ...but I think it have something to do with my oil or engine because the light been on for quite a while
