Q: Wheel bearing

asked by on September 06, 2017

Hi, very recently my 2000 Lincoln Navigator began making noises from he back real wheel area. I believe the driver side. I took it to a mechanic who drove it and said a beating was bad and that he wanted to replace the whole back end at a cost of $900. He said replacing just the bearing is to labor intensive and would end up costing me more any how. Does this sound right? Is any one able to help me in my area?? Thank you, Jennifer Altamirano

My car has 129000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Engine overheating and heat not working. Might need gasket.
When the engine is overheating and the heater does not blow hot the most likely cause is a low coolant level. If all those parts were replaced on your vehicle perhaps important parts were skipped over during the inspection. You...
Squealing noise
Hello. It sounds like your drive belt may need adjusting. Drive belts that are too loose can squeal, especially when the engine is cold. I suggest you have a trained professional, such as one from YourMechanic, adjust your belt (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/adjust-drive-belts)...
What temperature should my AC being blowing out at the vents?

How many miles can I drive on empty?

Replaced alternator and all was well. One day went to start the car and it made weird noise then shuttered and died. The belt doesn't seem lose.
Check the drive belt and see if it has a glaze to it. If so, then the drive belt (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/serpentine-drive-belt-replacement) is stretched and needs replaced. A drive belt has a life span of about 25K miles. Having 40K miles on...
Aux button on my radio
If the vehicle is equipped with an aux jack, it would be located in the center console bin, on the bottom towards the front. Later models have the jack located just in front of the shifter on the lower dash...
Bad egr causing lean in o2 sensor
Any vacuum leak, including the leak in the EGR valve control system that you described, could cause the P0153 code. If the two codes do not recur, you should still check the output of the oxygen sensor for correct waveform...
Car grinds, wont start has a new battery that is now dead from sitting autozone said starter is ok and I turned the flywheel
I would recommend replace the starter first since there are issues with it and a bench test only checks to see if it turns and does not test the drive gear. Replace starter and go from there.
