reverse works fine
Automotive Expert
Usually either the forward piston outer seal has failed or the forward cylinder has cracked. Both very common failures for the 4R70W. Both require internal repair or or replacement. I attached a few examples below. Sorry for the bad news. :( If you have any follow up questions, please let me know using the reply button. could I just replace those components? Or would I need a complete rebuild?
Automotive Expert
If you're going to open it up and go that far might as well rebuild it you're 75% of the way there. I can't imagine tearing the trans that far down and not at least replacing all the friction surfaces and all internal seals. All the hard parts can be reused if not worn too bad or otherwise damaged.

Alright thank you you've been very helpful.

You're very welcome!

After scouring the internet for days only things I found were replace valve body and bad torque converter...One last thing I forgot to mention is the only codes it pulled were related to lean fuel or something like that found a vacuum line that was damaged and the service engine light went off..
Automotive Expert
As long as it has good reverse it won't be the valve body or torque converter. This concern rarely sets any transmission codes.

Alright appreciate it I guess I'll pull the trans tomorrow and see what I can find.

Best of luck!

How do I clean the seats?
When cleaning the seats, be sure to never use harsh organic solvents such as alcohol or benzene. These kinds of solvents can cause damage to both the seats and the seat warmers. Instead, use a soft cloth and a mild...
Have possibly been driving for a year without an air filter
I personally do not like the aftermarket oil bath type of air filters with vehicles that have a mass air flow sensor. The oil that comes through the filter can contaminate the mass air sensor which would require regular cleaning...
Hard shifting and thunking noise at the rear end
Hello. The shift lever should remain stable unless it's moved by the driver. If it pops out of gear, even after a transmission replacement, I suggest inspecting the transmission mounts, engine mounts (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-engine-mount), and subframe bushings. Cases show that the...
My 2012 chrsyler 200 red security indicator light came on car won't start what does that mean?!!
This is a common problem in many of the Chrysler model cars. I would suggest taking it to the dealer to have the security system reset. The fact that this happened when turning on the defrost suggests a potential short...
Starter will not stay engaged long enough to start car ?
Hi There, It sounds like you may have a faulty starter solenoid or potentially a bad starter motor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/starter-replacement). A faulty starter solenoid will generally produce a clicking sound when turning the key. The starter solenoid is located on the...
Alarm is going off. Is there any way to reset/bypass problem?
You will have to open the hood and disconnect the battery (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/service-battery-cables) terminals to reset the computer. Before hooking up the battery cables, the vehicle will need to be locked as it was before the alarm was tripped. Then the...
I had my oil changed and they told me I have sludge on my engine, how can I clean it up to prevent any damage?
Although unfortunate, a limited presence of sludge in an engine does not necessarily require intervention. Really, the extent of the contamination would have to be confirmed before any useful advice could be given to you. If the sludge is limited...
what would a bad transmission control solenoid do?
The fault will depend on exactly which solenoid has failed. Typically a modern transmission will have shift solenoids, a lockup solenoid, a torque converter clutch solenoid, and possibly a solenoid for electronic pressure control. The more common symptoms of a...
