Q: engine swab questions

asked by on August 18, 2017

I'd, like to pull the current motor (3.7L) and replace it with a 4.7L. From what I've researched the motor mounts will line up exactly (same exact motor only one is 6 cyl and the other is 8 cyl) now obviously I'll use the 4.7 wiring harness. my concerns are the PCM because my vehicle is a 07 I have the NGC PCM and as such with the increase in HP/torque ill have to upgrade the trans. atm, it's a 4-speed auto. id like to use a 6-speed trans auto. (should I use the trans from the same vehicle as the 4.7l engine? or could I grab any 6-speed capable of handling the HP?) how would I go about doing this? it has been done before just not sure how to go about doing this. I have access to a fully loaded toolbox so tools shouldn't be the issue. I'm more worried about getting the engine to turn over when starting with the key. from what I understand. Might I have issues with something in the trans not lining up with something with the key and not letting the engine fire? what is your suggestion?
