Which engine is better, a cummings 5.9l or a 6.7l engine for a dodge ram 3500 or 2500 turbo diesel? What are the pros and cons to both engines? I'm looking to buy a truck and I have a 2006 Dodge ram 3500 turbo diesel 5.9l and it has been great. But I'm looking for a new vehicle and was questioning the different engines that were made and if there is a drastic difference in the engine? Thank you.
My car has an automatic transmission.

There are many highly significant differences in the two engines (cylinder pressure, emissions control, fuel delivery, the turbo, etc.) that are too extensive to even briefly summarize here. Please refer to already published analyses that compare and contrast (the pros and cons) the two engines such as the analysis published at this link. If you are trying to evaluate the reliability of a particular model year of vehicle, generally the thing to do is search the vehicle database at NHTSA. Review of the specific model year data at the NHTSA website will give you a quick indication of all the typical problem areas in a vehicle and vehicle systems (the engine, in your case) and will guide your decision. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.
