Q: Car trys to start without the key

asked by on

if the starter isnt bad what else could it be for a car to try and start without the key in
My car has an automatic transmission.

Hello There, it sounds like you may have a faulty starter solenoid. A failed starter solenoid may allow the starter run but would not energize the ignition switch, so the engine would turn over, but not run on its own. The only thing common to both starter and ignition is the ignition switch. I would recommend having a professional from YourMechanic come to your location to diagnose and inspect your car.
