Q: Car making loud whooping sound

asked by on January 02, 2017

While driving home from work i went through a big puddle slowly and i noticed that right after the car started making a loud whooping sound. At first i thought i had a flat tire but the tires were fine when i got out and checked. When i started driving again there was no sound immediately but it did start again after a couple of minutes. Is it related to the puddle? Can driving through a big puddle cause your car to make that sound?

Hi there. I believe that the puddle/start of the noise was simply a coincidence. It does sound like you may have a wheel bearing failing. Rotate the tires front to back and see if that changes the location of the noise; if it doesn’t change then it’s most like the wheel bearing or a related component. Either way, it’s best to have a qualified technician perform an inspection before the condition furthers and possibly damages additional components or becomes a safety hazard. Your Mechanic has several available technicians that can assist you with a car is making a noise while driving inspection.
