Q: Car is not starting but the lights are on

asked by on

Car is not starting . AAA says battery is good
My car has an automatic transmission.

There are several possibilities here - the neutral safety switch may have failed (requires you to be in Park/Neutral to start), the ignition switch may have failed (bad contacts), or the starter itself (solenoid or motor) may have failed.

I would recommend having a certified mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, come to your location to determine why the car will not start (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/car-will-not-turn-over-inspection) and suggest the necessary repairs.
