Q: Broken timing cover

asked by on

do i have to replace the timing cover. will it cause an oil lead . can i silicone it?

My car has 140000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Depending on the severity of the crack in your timing cover, silicone may not seal it properly enough to keep it from leaking oil. Additionally, the silicone will fail over time causing it to leak eventually. I would suggest having a professional from YourMechanic come to your location to diagnose and replace your timing cover.
