Q: at a cold start there's a ticking sound from under the hood until the car warms up.once the car is warm the ticking sound is gone

At a cold start there's a slight ticking sound from under the hood. If I rev it up a bit the ticking sound doesn't speed up or slow down just seems to randomly tick. I let the car sit for a few minutes idling and eventually it stops. Doesn't occur while driving at all and once the engine is warmed up it doesn't happen at all thru the day. Happens in the morning before work and after work about a 9 hour shift
