Zero pressure low side would that prevent ac comp from engaging

Yes. The A/C system will not let the clutch engage unless there is enough pressure in the system to engage the cycling pressure switch. If you want to have this looked at, a certified technician, such as one from YourMechanic to diagnose your AC system and let you know what should be done.
