Q: 2001 mercury mountaineer Shifted hard then 4wd low light came on and didn't want to go no power and barely moved

So the car was running fine.then all the sudden it shifted hard and started running bad and rough...the "4wd low light" came on..and barely made it home ..is it likely the transmission. Or could it he something else
