Q: 08 dodge charger. Abs lights come after I start driving

asked by on August 27, 2017

I came to a skid stop on a rainy night. It felt like only the front brakes engaged. Stopped at a speedway for 5 minutes. When I started the car and took off, my abs, and all brake lights came on, on my dash. I still had brakes but I drove home slowly

My car has 150000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Sometimes after an ABS event one of the sensors may lose signal if it way damaged during the event. This will turn on the lights for the brake and ABS systems. You will need to have the system tested to get the stored codes so they can be diagnosed to find out what the problem is and possible causes of why it happened.

Front wheel thumping
It could be from the bearing, or from a tire with a bubble or tread separation. I recommend having a mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, run a diagnostic on the source of the noise (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/car-is-making-a-noise-inspection) in order to identify...

Whirring noise at lower speeds
Hi there. If this noise changes as you accelerate and decelerate then most of the time it is caused by a failing pinion bearing in the rear differential. I usually start by checking the fluid (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/differential-fluid-service-rear-axle-oil-service-) in it to see...

Problem of irregular idle anytime I apply the brakes, it quits Peugeot 307
Hi - from your description of symptoms, it sounds like the brake booster has an air leak (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-hydraulic-brake-booster), or possibly the hose to the brake booster has a leak. The brake booster uses engine vacuum for braking assist. If the...
my emissions service light is on and car stalls
Hi There, Your car has a small purge valve called a purge solenoid (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/evaporation-vent-solenoid-replacement) that controls the venting of fumes from the fuel tank as these fumes build up inside, particularly when you are refueling the car with gas. The...
Engine stalls when putting car into gear.
There could be an issue with the transmission torque converter or the clutches forward and reverse are coming on at the same time inside the transmission causing the engine to stall out when shifting into gear. I recommend seeking out...
Can a dead battery cause my engine to stop working?
A dead or internally shorted battery can not only cause a car to stall but it will also overload the alternator as the alternator attempts to both charge the dead battery and supply the car's electrical needs. The battery can...
