Your vehicle uses a thermostatic expansion valve, rather than an orifice tube, to meter refrigerant into the evaporator. This expansion valve is in the plastic case that contains the evaporator coil under the dash. You have to remove the evaporator from under the dash to access the valve. The valve rarely fails and will only clog if there is a catastrophic mechanical failure of the a/c system. If your a/c system is not working, it is best to get a complete and accurate diagnostic prior to planning a repair so that you do not spend money on parts and services that are not need. If cooling efficiency seems low, or the system is not operational at all, simply request an air conditioning system inspection and the responding certified mechanic will get this resolved for you. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

The code p0102 shows up after cleaning the mass air flow sensor.

Hi and thanks for contacting Your Mechanic. The wiring harness to the mass air flow sensor (MAF) could have a break in the wires. Disconnect your battery and remove the harness to the MAF and your computer. Use a digital...

The car won't start, but I think it is the crank sensor, not the starter.

It is possible that your crank sensor may be at fault for your vehicle not starting. If the crank sensor goes bad the engine can not fire the spark plugs or the fuel injectors. This is a pretty common failure...

Hi, thanks for writing in. The OBD-II Error Code P-0170 indicates that the powertrain control module is detecting a fuel trim that is outside the range of specification set by the vehicle’s manufacturer. This can mean a negative fuel trim...

Changed radiator and cooler hoses(2 at 3/8" wide), the ones that run to the bottom of radiator. The car now when starts wont move

You will need to add about 1 quart of fluid that was lost when the radiator and hoses were changed. Check transmission level and if problem continues then you may need to have transmission checked. Just low on fluid will...

Headlight flickers, then goes completely out

If the vehicle has conventional halogen headlamps, then I'd look for a loose or broken ground to the headlights, either at each individual headlamp, or the headlamp circuit. If the vehicle is equipped with HID (high intensity discharge) headlights, then...

Truck is running good, but sometimes it will act like it's flooding out. It will sometimes stall when stopped unless I pump the gas quickly

Hi there. Your truck is from the 1999 model year so it is fully OBD-II compliant. That means that the computer "runs" the show and the only way the car can be tuned is if the oxygen sensors are operating...

brake lights not working, cant shift out of park

The brake light switch is the most common failure that would make the brake lights inoperative for your car. However, a mere blown fuse can also be the cause. I recommend having a mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, come...
