Q: When i press on the gas pedal the car makes a squeaking/whining noise

asked by on November 29, 2017

I first started hearing a whining noise early in the morning when I turned on my defrost on my heater until the car warmed up. So I thought I might need a AC Compressor belt or a fan belt. This has only been the last couple of weeks since it has turned cold in the mornings.

But in the afternoons when the weather had warmed up and I was going home I just started hearing some light noise when I pressed hard on the accelerator.

Now this morning there was no noise coming out of the defroster at all, but definitely a noise when I pressed hard on the accelerator and the noise is more noticeable. It is a whining type of noise. Not a knocking noise, but definitely a noise.

What could be causing this issue?!

My Check Engine light is NOT on or any other light indicating what the issue might be.

My car has 155000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

It is not clear if you are referring to a noise that correlates with use of the blower motor or a noise that simply occurs all the time, that is regardless of whether the blower motor is on or not. If you are hearing the noise when the car is not moving, a quick diagnostic can be performed by simply taking all of the belt driven accessories out of the picture (the latter components being a common source of the particular noise you are describing) by disconnecting the drive belts and then VERY briefly running the engine. If the sound disappears, the faulty component is then isolated amongst the accessories and pulleys. If the sounds does not disappear, that means the noise originates elsewhere. If you want these steps performed by a certified Mechanic, dispatched by YourMechanic right to your location, please request a vehicle noise diagnostic and the responding certified mechanic will definitely find the origin of the noise and get this resolved for you promptly. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.
