Has anyone run a diagnostic test to pull the trouble code? No Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model/year of your car? 2017 toyota [corolla](/topics-corolla/) Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Corolla yourself? What have you tried so far? No i am not. i didnt do anything so far. i just got off the highway and drove slower Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? That is all

Thank you for contacting just answer with your question, sorry to hear that you are having difficulties with your Corolla. From what you are describing it sounds like this is an engine misfire, this condition will cause the check engine light to illuminate and in most cases will cause the light to flash, the most common trouble areas for this are the [ignition coils](/topics-ignition-coil-toyota/), possibly [spark plugs](/topics-spark-plug-toyota/) but they usually last about 100,000 miles but can not be ruled out. The first step would be to narrow things down a bit by isolating the cylinder that is causing the misfire, there could be more than one but just lets suppose it's one of the cylinders that is affected, the best way to do this is to use a diagnostic code reader, if you happen to have one that would be great and save you a trip to the local auto parts store, places like autozone connect the reader to the car and provide you with a diagnostic code number, a misfire will be codes P0301-304, #1 cylinder through #4, depending on which cylinder, remove the spark plug for inspection, if ok, replace the coil assembly. I hope this helps and even if you don't do the repair yourself at least you have some insight before heading to a repair shop or the Toyota facility. Thanks again and have a great weekend.

Omg thank u so much for this now as far as driving it in the mean time will i be ok?

Try not to drive too much with the light blinking It may overheat the [catalytic converter](/topics-catalytic-converter-toyota/)

Well its not blinking. It is on but i noticed when its not too cold outside the light goes off

Ok , then just drive it until you can have the trouble codes read. In case you have any other concerns after that I'll be here online most every day.

Ok thank u

You're welcome, good luck.

Hey i went to auto zone and the test came back no solutions foundWhat does that mean if my engine light is in fact still on
Automotive Expert
Thanks for the update, I have never seen a check engine light turn on and show no codes when scanned so I don't really know how to answer that. You mentioned temperature has an effect and when it's warmer outside the light goes off, I'm just taking a couple of educated guesses here but you may want to try to replace the engine coolant thermostat and also the engine coolant temp sensor, the only other thing that comes to mind would be a problem with the engine control module itself, hope that makes sense.

Ok thank you for all ur help
