Hi there’s a loud rattling noise coming from the dashboard and it started stalling when coming to a stop Mechanic's Assistant: Where exactly do you think the noise is coming from? And how long has this been going on? A few weeks now and from the passenger side dashboard Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model/year of your car? 2011 Toyota [camry](/topics-camry/) Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Camry yourself? What have you tried so far? Well it just completely stalled about 20 mins ago and I haven’t tried fixing anything yet I assumed the rattling came from a piece under the bumper that came a loose until today Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? I recently had an oil change and about a month later the low oil light popped on but there’s no visible evidence of a leak that I could see

Sometimes it may take a moment for me to respond because I may have to look up information about your concern. I appreciate your patience and will provide responses as soon as possible. The rattling is usually caused by the variable valve timing actuator. It's the camshaft gear. It uses oil pressure to adjust timing for efficiency. When they go bad they will start rattling and will cause it to stall. Check the oil level to make sure it's full. If it is then you'll have to check the actuator. My goal is to give you the best service possible and to help you. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to let me know. If I’m not online at the time, I will respond ASAP when I get back.

Will it cause the car to kill?
Automotive Expert
Yes.

I started having an issue with the oil level a few weeks after an oil changeWhat would I need to do to get it running?I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with auto mechanic. What parts would I need
Automotive Expert
You'll need to check the actuator operation with a scan tool. If it's not working correctly or the rattling is from the timing chain area you'll have to take the cover off and replace the actuator and/or timing chain.

Ok thank you veryMuch
Automotive Expert
