Hello, the battery will have a maximum of 12.6 volts on its own. If it reads 13 while running it should be charging. So you should be ok. The voltage should go up as you raise the [engine](/topics-engine-toyota/) rpm as well. Any auto parts store can double check the charging system operation for you as well.

The alternator read 13 volts
Automotive Expert
Yes so it should be charging and it should increase with higher engine rpm as well. You can turn on some loads like the blower fan and the high beam headlamps and it should drop some but come back up and charge if it is working properly.

with a brand new battery can I drive 4hrs an be ok
Automotive Expert
Yes it sounds like it is working, if the battery warning light is on, then that would point to a charging system problem.

what's the lowest voltage the alternator should read
Automotive Expert
anything below 12.6 then you are running on the battery.

alternator an battery have the same readings or different
Automotive Expert
The battery is 12.6 max voltage as storage device. The alternator when charging will run 13-14 volts to top off the voltage in the batter and run the vehicle and its electronic accessories. The Alternator recharges the battery
Automotive Expert
What is your question? I have answered it more than once? It shows 13 volts it is working, the battery has a maximum of 12.6. You should be fine to drive 4 hours.
