Q: Oil filter housing leak

asked by on

There is a leak in the oil filter housing.

Hello! The most common oil leak on a BMW inline six is the gasket between the engine block and the oil filter housing. The alternator must be removed to provide access to the oil filter housing. Once the gasket is replaced, the oil can be cleaned-up, and checked again in a couple days to verify the repair. I recommend hiring a mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, to perform the oil filter housing gasket replacement for you.
