My truck is running really rough changed the crankshaft position sensors and now it is running worse any ideas thanks Mechanic's Assistant: Does the vehicle stall at low speeds? Does it sputter? Yes it sounds like it’s misfiring I turnoff for a few and then it works for a little bit then it happens again i can’t Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model/year of your car? O5 titan Mechanic's Assistant: What year is your Titan? Nissan Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Titan yourself? What have you tried so far? 2005 Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? I just don’t have a lot of money I’m a single dad unfortunately and just got the truck and I’m just trying to find what to try next because it’s very important to have a running and reliable truck

Hi, my name is\*\*\*\*\*’ve been a technician on Just Answer since 2007 and I'll be helping you today. I'm sorry to hear you are having difficulties with your vehicle. I know how inconvenient car trouble is, but together, we will get your vehicle back up and running quickly. May I ask whom I am chatting with today?

If the check engine light is on, the first thing to do is have it scanned. Most parts stores will do this free of charge. It's possible there is an issue with one of your ignition coils and that's causing the misfire. If you don't have a check engine light on, then it's a little bit more difficult to find the source of the issue. If it idles rough, check it for vacuum leaks by spraying some carb cleaner around the intake and see if the idle speed increases or smooths out, if it does, then you have a vacuum leak. If not, then turn the truck off and try unplugging the mass air flow sensor. Then start it. If it idles smooth, it's possible the maf sensor is the issue. This could be as simple as needing a new set of plugs, if you don't know when they were changed, it's very possible. Thank you for taking the time to contact Just Answer today. Have I answered your question? If any part of my response is unclear, please let me know. It’s my goal to deliver excellent service, so please let me know if there is anything more I can do. If you are satisfied with my help, please let me know with a short note here. Thank you.

The code comes up poo35 the ccrankshaft positioning sensor I replaceEd that it sounds worse
Automotive Expert
Is the code still there with the new sensor?

I got rid of the code and keeps coming backWhat should I try next
Automotive Expert
Ok, then the new sensor isn't helping it. Did you get this sensor from the dealer or a parts store? I think the next thing to try is one from the dealer, or get the one you have warrantied. If you still have the code after that, then you need to get a voltmeter and test the wiring for the [crank sensor](/topics-crank-sensor/). This is the sensor down by the oil pan you are replacing right? I just need to be sure.

It’s on top in back of the engine it’s located on the back of the head located on driver side I’m I replacing the wrong sensor and the part is from a parts storeIt says on the code reader it’s the a circuitI have my own code reader
Automotive Expert
You are replacing the cam sensor, not the crank sensor. It's got 2 cam sensors, one on the driver head and the other on the back of the passenger head.

what do I need to buy to fi this issue and the location I need o look or the name so I can see what it looks like to get a better idea why would they give me that ughhh
Automotive Expert
The cam and the crank sensors look pretty much the same. If you still have the sensor you pulled out of the head, put it back in and take the new one and install it in the right location. That should solve the code issue for you. If not, then get a replacement cam sensor and install it in the head, then install that crank sensor in the right location.

K so I will put back the old sensor back then take that new sensor and put it where?!?
Automotive Expert
Put it in the crank sensor location under the truck. Did you get the diagram I sent to you?

Can I use that new sensor I got for the crank sensor I still have the old cam sensor that I will put back in the cam will that effect anything or it should be good to go!!!it is located on the bottom of engine above the back side of the oil panGood cause that part was 80 dollars for a stupid piece of plastic lol
Automotive Expert
If you got a crank sensor from the parts store, which you likely did because you asked for a crank sensor, you want to put that in the crank sensor location. Put the old cam sensor in the head, and at that point you should be good to go. Yes, in the diagram you can see the cross bar on the frame, you will see that when you are under the truck and that should help you locate it.

Thanks a lot I really appreciate it your auesome that cam sensor is a pain in the but to take in and out but this should be the last time thanks again you rock!!!!! And thanks for the step by step you make this so much easier
Automotive Expert
You're very welcome. Have a good weekend!

switched those 2 out and put in the crankshaft sensor. I took it for a spin and I’m still having issues I am still loosing a lot of power.... like it’s hesitating ughhh I can’t drive it on the freeway at all if I put the peddle down it has very little get up and go the slip light is on and abs light is on idk if any of those matter but it’s like it’s in limp mode or something
Automotive Expert
Ok, the crank sensor code has cleared now? If you can get the ABS light scanned it may help, it's possible the traction control is preventing the truck from accelerating. Other possible issues could be the mass airflow sensor or a blocked converter. If you step on the gas and the engine rpms go to about 3k, then drop off, that usually means the maf sensor is the issue. Otherwise, you can try pulling the O2 senosrs out of the exhaust BEFORE the catalytic converters and see if there is improvement. It's going to be very loud, but you should be able to tell if there is more power. These are high up on the exhaust, either in the top of the converter or in the exhaust manifolds.

Yep no code no check engine light but a slip light is on now what is that
Automotive Expert
That means there is an issue with one of the sensors for the traction control. Please read the info I already sent on that.

now I have a p0171 system to lean bank one and p0300 random/multiple cylinder misfire detected are the codes that are on now and it’s just drinking gas smells super rich what should I do now is this a game changer love how plans change I’ve had abs light on for since I’ve had it so I don’t think it’s that change plugs?!? And what else do you suggest that’s probably why I have no power cut I do loose power at 3 k let me know I really appreciate your help!!
Automotive Expert
It sounds like the problem is the mass airflow sensor, it will cause the 300 code and the 171 if the maf sensor is sending the wrong info to the computer. Sadly there isn't any good test I can give you for that unless you unplug it, then start the truck and see if the idle smooths out.

Where is the location of the maf
Automotive Expert
The maf is the sensor mounted to the tube from the air filter to the throttle body.

K cleaned it and still running bad idk what to do now this sucks and it’s been extremely frustrating any more suggestions on what to do would be amazing I appreciate your hard work!!!
Automotive Expert
Ok, did it run differently with it unplugged?

NoDo you think cleaning the intake after the maf sensor Would help at all what do you think!Sorry it never notified me that you answered my questionOr do you know any decent shops to take my truck into that is reasonable on price cause I just lost my job so yeah been a rough new year so far unfortunately ughhhLmk all what you think it could be I was thinking the timing chain but I really don’t want it to be ughhhh

Just texts is all I can I exceptIt did not run differently at all unfortunately
Automotive Expert
Ok, have you tried removing the upstream O2 sensors yet as suggested to see if it runs any better? Sorry I didn't see this sooner

i did,it did not help at all when I unplugged them!Anything else I should try before I light it on fire?!?
Automotive Expert
Unplugging them isn't what I said to do, you have to remove them from the exhaust so if the converters are plugged the exhaust has someplace to go.

Cause it could be a blocked cat I see I see ok
Automotive Expert
Yes, exactly.

It’s throwing the crankshaft sensor code again now haven’t had time to take out the o2 sensor yet my uncle passed away so I’ve been dealing with that as well
Automotive Expert
Sorry for your loss. I would still do the converter check on it and see if there is any change. Don't worry about the crank code yet.
