Q: engine performance or transmission performance

asked by on July 31, 2017

I have this car, it does not work well, it gives me these three symptoms. 1- it can not take a higher speed, it remains on the 1st speed only. 2-in the wrong tracks the engine goes out. 3- During acceleration the motor will also switch off.

thank you.

My car has an automatic transmission.

it is possible that you may be having an issue with the engine and the transmission. If the engine is shutting off, it is missing one of three things. Fuel, ignition, or compression. Most likely the fuel is the cause of the issue as the loss of fuel is more common than the others. However, if this engine has a distributor, which i believe it does, it is possible that there could be an issue with the cap, rotor, or distributor itself. As for the transmission, it is possible that a low fluid level could cause this so I would check that first. However, most likely there is an internal issue in the transmission causing the lack of shift from first to second gear. This could be a shift solenoid or something much more serious. I would recommend having your transmission inspected by a certified transmission specialist in your area to diagnose the exact cause of this issue.

Clutch problems

As long as you can safely shift the transmission without grinding the gears, and the clutch is shifting you should be fine. This sounds like an issue with the clutch hydraulic system. You may be able to have a mechanic,...

My car squeals like death when I brake but only shortly after starting it, why is that?

Brake squeal is actually a high frequency vibration. The best way to reduce it is to disassemble whichever brakes - front, rear, or all 4 wheels - that is causing the squeal. A light sanding of the pads/rotors or shoes/drums...

My car just cut off while driving and won't start again

My timing belt broke, is there a chance there is no damage? 2000 Dodge Neon

Unfortunately, the valves are most likely bent along with possible piston damage. The 2.0ltr in both single and double-overhead-cam configurations are interference engines. The valves and pistons occupy the same space. The job of the timing belt is to keep...

Just replaced the starter. 1st try worked great. Next 4 trys only a click at starter. All lights work. Not a batt prob.

Hello, thank you for writing in. There may be one of several issues going on. First, make sure all of the electrical connections to the starter, including the ground, are clean, dry, and tight. Secondly, a shim is often needed...
