Q: Emergency brake light on

asked by on January 26, 2016

The emergency brake light stays on when the emergency brake is not pulled up. I was told that a sensor needs to be replaced.

The red brake light is primarily lit when you apply the emergency brake, but it also lights up when you have a hydraulic problem with the brakes. Things like low fluid levels, leaking wheel cylinders, or brake hoses can also get the red light to come on and stay on. Because of the safety concern, I would suggest seeking the help of a qualified mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, to help you determine the cause of the light. Experiencing brake failure can be a very dangerous, so I would get this looked at as soon as possible.

Hard to turn steering wheel
It sounds like you are low on power steering fluid; power steering pumps are very noisy when they are low on fluid. You will also lack power assist. Check the reservoir with the engine off; if the fluid level is...
The price of unplugging the EGR passage
It depends on the car and what you need to do. I’ve got a video “unplug the EGR low-flow with a speedometer cable (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_eSvvuQm1E)” and a lot of times they work pretty well. You unbolt the EGR valve and then...
Car vibrates/shakes when sitting still in idle (in gear or in neutral).
This sounds as if you have a low idle condition. I can say your car isn't likely to suffer a catastrophic failure because of this. With a condition such as this, it is normal for it to run rougher (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/car-idle-is-rough-inspection)...

Compressor failed on 2010 Equinox. Need to replace compressor, what other parts need to be changed at same time?
Depending on how the compressor failed, it would be wise to replace the condenser as well. This cools the refrigerant as it leaves the compressor. You may want to also replace the expansion valve which is what is responsible for...

My radiator fan is running very slowly, any advice you can give me to fix this issue?
You are correct. The fan motor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/cooling-radiator-fan-motor-replacement) has too much resistance and will not allow the full amount of current into the motor from the battery. I recommend replacing the fan motor. Also, check the voltage on the harness to...
I went to get gas and when I opened my gas cap there was a red puddle of liquid at the entrance to the gas tank.
I can't think of another explanation. That kind of vandalism is not uncommon. You need to have a sample taken from the fuel and checked for contaminants. It might be necessary to drain the fuel tank and clean it out....
