Q: Changed transmission and now have NO indication what gear i am using, is this legal?

Had transmission and engine changed. Now have Hemi w/ Automatic transmission, both 2012. No indication as to what gear I am in. Still have the shifter on the column, BUt it is for a three speed, and I have told the transmission is a fie speed. I do not know what gear I am in or if I down shift what gear am I going into, IS THIS LEGAL?
