P2285 code definition

Injector Control Press Sensor Circuit Low

What the P2285 code means

P2285 is an OBD-II generic code for the engine control module (ECM) detecting the injector control pressure (ICP) sensor is low and below specified sensor range.

What causes the P2285 code?

  • The ICP sensor has an open circuit
  • The ICP sensor is disconnected or has an open circuit in the wiring or connector
  • The ICP sensor is shorted or the wiring is shorted or grounded
  • Defective ECM

What are the symptoms of the P2285 code?

  • The Check Engine Light will be illuminated and the code is set in the ECM memory as a fault.

  • The engine may run very rough and stall if the fuel circuit is compromised from the fault.

  • The engine may run lean and misfire.

How does a mechanic diagnose the P2285 code?

  • Scans for codes and documents the code in the ECM and looks at the freeze frame data for failure

  • Checks the ICP sensor for the proper voltage return to the ECM following the manufacture pinpoint tests for your application

  • Verifies the wiring and connector are not damaged or shorted

  • Checks the ICP to specified resistance following manufacturer specifications

Common mistakes when diagnosing the P2285 code?

  • Clearing ECM memory codes before checking the freeze frame data for the main failure problem, so the failure may be duplicated and repaired

  • Failing to follow the manufacturer pinpoint tests for the application

  • Replacing the ICP without verifying the failure

How serious is the P2285 code?

Code P2285 is a code indicating the engine is detecting the ICP is too low out of specifications and the fuel injection system cannot work correctly with this sensor and the engine may have running and drivability issues.

What repairs can fix the P2285 code?

Additional comments for consideration regarding the P2285 code

Code P2285 can be from the ICP being biased in the wrong direction and going below a specified range on the low side. The replacement sensor should correct this condition. This is the most common reason for this code.
