How to Register a Car in Wyoming

In order for a person to get back and forth to their job, they will need a car. If you are making a move to Wyoming, then you will need to do everything you can to ensure your car stays drivable. You will need to get your car registered in Wyoming before the 30 day mark has passed in order to avoid getting hit with a late fee. The country treasurer’s office is where you will have to go to get your car registered. Here are some of the things that you have to bring with you in order to ensure you can get your car registered:

  • A current insurance policy for the vehicle
  • A valid driver’s license
  • A title and registration from your former state

Buying a car from a dealership is very beneficial for a Wyoming resident. By purchasing a car from the dealership, you will be able to have the registration process handled without doing anything. The dealership will be able to handle the registration and give you a copy of the paperwork for your records. They will also be able to give you a temporary tag.

If you buy your new vehicle from a private seller or individual, you will be responsible for registering the vehicle. This is what you will need to bring with you when trying to get this registration process completed:

  • A copy of the vehicle title with your name on it
  • Proof that you have insurance on the vehicle
  • The lease agreement if you are still paying on the vehicle
  • An Application for Certificate of Title and VIN/HIN Inspection

The fees that you will be charged for registering a vehicle in Wyoming will vary by county. This means that you will need to call your local licensing office to see how much you will need to pay.

You will need to have an insurance policy on the vehicle in question before you are able to get approved for registration. If you have more questions about this process, you can visit the Wyoming DMV website.
