Feng shui is a set of principles that promotes the flow of positive energy. It can be applied to all aspects of life, and your vehicle is no different. The phrase comes from a Chinese philosophical system that emphasizes harmony between people and their environment, and in English, the terms feng shui translate to the words “wind water.”

With feng shui, you can make your car a peaceful oasis where you can focus on your environment and reinforce a calm, soothing driving experience. The following methods will show you how you can easily adapt the principles of feng shui to your vehicle.

Method 1 of 6: De-clutter your environment

Clutter builds negative energy, distracting you from the positive aspects of your environment. Also, a clean interior emphasizes health and shows that you care for your vehicle and your surroundings, which promotes positive energy.

garbage and clutter spread out over interior

Step 1: Remove all garbage from your interior. Garbage can easily accumulate in the car over several weeks.

Throw out empty coffee cups, food wrappers, and those receipts that float around inside your car.

Step 2: Vacuum your carpet. Vacuum your carpets and floor mats to get rid of crumbs, dust, and debris that take away from the appearance of the car.

Step 3: Wipe away the dust. Wipe the dust from your dashboard and interior trim. This will give the car a glossier look and will give the car the feeling of newness.

Method 2 of 6: Breathe clean air

Breathing in polluted, stale air steals your mental sharpness and sucks the positive energy out of your car.

Step 1: Roll down your windows. Roll down your windows whenever the conditions are suited to it.

Open windows let in fresh air from outside, reinvigorating you and waking you up to feel energetic.

removing the cabin filter

Step 2: Replace the cabin filter. Replace your cabin air filter once a year to promote good airflow in your vehicle.

The cabin filter catches dust and pollen that can cause allergic and seasonal reactions.

When the cabin air filter is dirty, it reduces airflow from the interior fan, dampening the positive energy from fresh, clean air flow.

  • Note The cabin air filter is usually found beneath the dashboard or behind the glove box on the passenger side.

aromatherapy diffuser installed in car

Step 3: Use an aromatherapy diffuser in your car. Foul odors create negative energy that make it unpleasant to be inside your car.

If your car is clean and you still smell an odd odor, use aromatherapy scents to mask the smell.

Peppermint and lemongrass scents create an energizing atmosphere and promote focus.

Lavender or sweet orange soothes and calms the nerves, bringing positive energy into your car.

Method 3 of 6: Maintain your car’s windows

Windows are equated to the eyes of your car. If your car’s windows are dirty or damaged, feng shui equates that with a blurred vision of the future.

person cleaning your car windows

Step 1: Clean your car’s windows. Wipe the inside and outside of your windows with high-quality glass cleaner and lint-free cloths to rid the glass of film and dirt.

Step 2: Give your car 20/20 vision. Roll down your side windows to complete the window cleaning process. Wipe the top edge that goes into the window channel, avoiding the line of dirt that normally remains.

Step 3: Replace or repair your damaged windshield. Fix any stone chips or cracks that can be repaired.

Have your windshield replaced if the damage cannot be repaired sufficiently.

Method 4 of 6: Perform your regular vehicle maintenance and repairs

When your vehicle has problems with how it runs and operates, or if there are lights coming on in the gauge cluster when you drive, it brings a negative energy into your car. Addressing any issues that creep up will restore the positivity that feng shui promotes.

Step 1: Change your fluids. Have your oil changed at regular intervals and get your other fluids checked and replaced as necessary.

person inflating their tires

Step 2: Inflate your tires. You can promote smooth driving by properly inflating your tires to the recommended pressure.

For this you will need access to an air pump. This can be either be a personally owned air pump or one from an air servicing section at a gas station.

The recommended air pressure for a vehicle’s tire is between 32 and 35 psi (pounds per square inch). However, you will want each tire of the car to have approximately the same amount of pressure.

vehicle warning lights appearing on dash

Step 3: Address any warning lights on dashboard. Address any malfunction indicators that illuminate on the dashboard.

  • Check Engine Light: This usually means that the engine’s computer has detected a fault that will be indicated by a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). This will require diagnostic by a professional scan tool.

  • Oil Pressure Light: This light indicates a loss of oil pressure. To prevent further damage, a mechanic should check your oil levels to make sure leaks are not present.

  • Coolant Temperature Warning: This light indicates higher temperatures than normal. For this, you should have coolant levels, radiator, and air conditioning operations checked.

  • Service Vehicle Soon: This signal will light up when there is a problem detected by the BCM (body control module), such as an electrical problem, light problem, or a communication issue between modules.

Method 5 of 6: Select a familiar color of vehicle

Colors are representative of many things in feng shui, but the most important thing about a color for your vehicle is how it makes you feel. The same goes with accents that you put inside your vehicle.

Step 1: Choose a vehicle color. If your favorite color is green, the most important thing is that you like the color and are calmed or enlightened by looking at it.

Step 2: Use soothing accent colors inside your vehicle. Hang an accent from your rearview mirror that is a geometric shape you appreciate in a color that you find soothing.

Use coffee cups and water bottles inside your car that match your interior colors and accent colors so the positive energy continues to flow.

Method 6 of 6: Park your vehicle in a non-aggressive position

Most vehicles have a front appearance like a face. Unless you drive a VW Beetle, most vehicle “faces” have an aggressive look.

Step 1: Park in the garage. Park your vehicle in the garage whenever possible.

Not only is this a protective place for your car, out of the elements, but it harbors a safe, comfortable environment.

car facing away from the house

Step 2: Park facing away from your house. When you walk out of your house, you aren’t looking into an angry visage on your car immediately, keeping your mood light and positive.

Back into your driveway when it’s possible.

It’s also much easier to pull out of your driveway when you are backed in because you can see cross traffic easier.

Promoting feng shui within your car can make all the difference when it comes to having a positive driving experience. By taking care of your vehicle, both through cleanliness and maintenance, you can create a positive flow of energy that can make your next drive more peaceful and soothing.

Richard was an outstanding mechanic. After he arrived, the first thing he did after taking the initial pictures of the car is an assessment into what work was asked. He quickly verified that I did not need brake fluid and my front brakes even-though it affects his personal commitments and time, which I think is highly appreciate and thorough professional. He was detailed oriented - took time to make sure that all the issue are fixed. He paid attention to detail in overall car assessment- he goes above and beyond. He was also teaching me through the process which I found highly educational and appreciate him providing the information ensuring and making me comfortable what he was doing and explaining patiently all the questions that was thrown at him. When he works - you know he's highly skilled and experienced and knows his stuff. He is highly experienced. He is a "Master" mechanic in true sense :)
