When I try and start my car, the key won't turn

My car has 2900 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Hi, thanks for writing in. There are a few things that might be going on with your ignition switch. First, the ignition cylinder might be damaged if it won’t turn when you insert the key. Second, it may be the steering wheel column is damaged as well. The best way to determine the exact reason why your key won’t start the car, you should have one of our mechanics inspect the ignition lock cylinder first. Here at YourMechanic, we can have a technician come to your home or office to inspect and diagnose this issue for you, and make or suggest the necessary repairs.

The statements expressed above are only for informational purposes and should be independently verified. Please see our terms of service for more details
