America’s best-selling compact car, the Honda Civic has been around for nine generations now, and the 2012 models boast some very exciting features and upgrades. Including coupe and sedan styles, the Civic continues to be one of the most versatile, fuel efficient, and comfortable compact cars on the road today.

Key Features

Starting with the base model Civic DX, you’ll get a five-inch LCD monitor in the dash that displays music information, mileage, and navigation. The 2012 Civic also includes in-car Bluetooth audio, so you can play music from your mobile devices or even talk on the phone through your car’s stereo.

Changes for 2012

While no major changes have been made for 2012, the minor ones certainly add up. Honda has increased fuel economy, upgraded the driving dynamics, and thoroughly enhanced in-car information and entertainment capabilities. Also, the sporty SI model is more powerful than ever.

Both the Ford Focus and the Mazda 3 have the Civic beat in looks and sportiness. If you’re concerned about style, the Civic is not as attractive as some other models, though it is definitely a great performer.

Available Models

The Civic comes in the base model DX and then moves up in features and luxury to the LX, EX, and EX-L, as well as the more performance-oriented SI. Engine options include:

  • Engine – 1.8-liter inline four-cylinder

    • Power – 140 HP at 6500 RPM
    • Torque – 128 lb-ft at 4300 RPM
    • Fuel economy (MPG city/highway) – 28/39 (automatic), 28/36 (manual)
  • Engine (SI only) – 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder

    • Power – 201 HP at 7000 RPM
    • Torque – 170 lb-ft at 4400 RPM
    • Fuel economy (MPG city/highway) – 22/31 (manual)

Major Recalls

Certain models manufactured in mid to late October 2012 are being recalled due to improper assembly of the steering column.

Common Issues

By far, the most common problems that Civic owners report are with interior accessories. Owners complain that the seats are not as comfortable as they could be and that they have issues with onboard computer systems and cheap materials. There are really no common issues with the car’s ability to function, though.
