Q: Motor oil.

asked by on December 11, 2016

Hey There. I'm from Bangladesh. I'M using a Hero Xtreme (150CC Air Cooled, 4 - Stroke Single Cylinder) motorbike. My question is it okey to use 10W40 grade fully synthetic motor oil on the bike??? Manufacturer suggested to use 10w30 grade but only mineral and semi synthetic is available in that grade. But i'm using Motul 7100 10w40 easter fully synthetic and the engine is working real smooth and the sound also got better. But many are saying to not using 10w40 as it's not suggested by the manufacturer and it will damage the engine in the long run. So i wanted to know does if it's really a threat for the engine to use 10w40 instead of 10w30??? Doest it make that difference??? Please let me know. Looking forward to your answer. Thank you.

10W40 synthetic is perfectly fine oil to use in your 150cc motorcycle engine. In fact the Motul 7100 10w40 oil is one of the better quality oils on the market in the motorsports market right now. The main difference between 10w40 and 10w30 is the viscosity (thickness) at high operating temperatures. It is important to be sure you are always using motorcycle grade oils due to the chemical composition required for proper maintenance of the clutches in motorcycle engines. The 10w40 will actually hold up longer during high temperatures. 10w30 may be a better option for cooler winter months when oil does not flow quite as smoothly as it does during summer months. You should have nothing to worry about with the 10w40 grade you are currently using.
