Q: How does the outside temperature display work in a 2012 Toyota RAV4?

asked by on December 14, 2015

How does the outside temperature display work?

Your car has an outside temperature display that will tell you the temperature outside of the car. This can provide you with important information for your trip. It can display temperatures from -40 degrees F to 122 degrees F. If the temperature drops below 37 degrees F while you’re driving, the display will flash to warn you that extra caution is needed because of possible ice or freezing precipitation. Use the display button to cycle to this setting in the center information display.

Tips

  • If the car is stopped or being driven slowly, the temperature displayed may be inaccurate.

  • If you experience a sudden, drastic change in outside air temperature (such as pulling out of your garage into the heat of a summer day), the temperature reading may be incorrect.

Not shifting into overdrive
This transmission is electronically shifted. Possible causes of no overdrive include a faulty transmission range switch, valve body, faulty overdrive brake, or faulty ECM. Faults codes should be read out with a scanner, and statuses read. You may want to...
Ticking noise when at idle and louder while accelerating
The noise may be the lifters, but the problem may not be the lifters. Your engine's heads have very small passages that feed oil to them through the heads, and, if the parts are being starved of oil, then the...
Cut off while driving
Based on the information you provided, it does seem like your clutch switch may be faulty. You may have another cause for the no-start. Read the DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-to-read-and-understand-check-engine-light-codes-by-jason-unrau) to determine if you have another component that needs...
Car will not move after driving for 2 minutes

Failed engine, flywheel came off as well
The only way to determine the failure mode of the bolts is to send the "assembly" to a forensic laboratory equipped with a scanning electron microscope. If the bolts were loose, there would have been noticeable vibration and noise prior...
No compression but spark is there, fuel goes good. What is happening? The car only cranks and doesn't start.
Hi there, thanks for writing in. Unfortunately, if there is no compression, you have internal engine failure. This could be piston ring failure. Generally, a used engine would be the order for the repair as the cylinder walls could be...
truck shakes alot at 60 mph & steering wheel has alot of play
Hello - assuming the tire balancing was done correctly, the shaking issues (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/what-causes-a-car-to-shake) could be either a bent wheel, a separating tire (tread separating from the structural belts) or an out-of-round tire. All of these conditions can be "balanced" but...

Hi there. Unfortunately we do not offer repair or maintenance tips for this type of vehicle. You might want to contact a local mechanic or the manufacturer to receive the input you're requesting. Thanks.
p0305 Misfire in Cylinder 5
The fuel injector could be faulty and/or plugged and that would explain the high short term fuel trim on Bank 1 which contains cylinder No. 5. Another possibility is a vacuum leak around the intake to that one cylinder. If...
