Q: Engine died getting to 60mph,wont start, very low oil but no water in engine, but sludge in coolant reservoir.had recent oil chage

asked by on March 06, 2018

Bought car,had low oil,put 2-3 small bottles of oil qhile i used for about 1-2 months before oil change, always drove fine,no check light either, about 1-2 months later while on freeway seemed to be driving slow so i tried giving it a little gas to speed up but engine turned off, lights still work fine, and then battery and oil check light turn on. Once i had it towed home i found oil was either out or very low and there was oily sludge in coolant reservoir. Friend of mine said it didnt seem like there was water in engine so it might not be head gasket but maybe someone put oil in my radiator or there is a leak somewhere. It is a honda civic 95 around 190000 miles i live near seattle and have had very cold weather during all of this and all but maybe 4 or 5 time have let it warm up in mornings between 5-15mins dose have quite a bit of exhaust while warming up but gose away after about 5mins of driving. I also usually keep AC on to defrost windows while driving because heater dose not work.
