Put a new ecm in and no start Mechanic's Assistant: Will the headlights turn on? Is the [battery](/topics-battery-dodge/) fully charged? The batteries are charged yes and the lights come on Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model/year of your car? 1999 dodge 3500 Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your vehicle yourself? What have you tried so far? I have changed injectors, injection pump, lift pump Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? Well the ecm is off a 2001 truck, same model so I'm trying to figure out if I have to reprogram it to my truck

Hello - my name is \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* the 2001 ECM does need to have the VIN # programmed from your 1999 - also, make sure the ECM numbers from the 1999 and 2001 are the same - although they may appear similar, ECM pinouts may have changed year to year

Thank you sir for your answer, I'm assuming I just take it to the dealership to have it reprogrammed?
Automotive Expert
No problem - the dealer is your best bet to have an ECM reprogrammed since they can apply any updates while they have it

The biggest question I had was that one about being able to make it compatible to my 1999 model and if the numbers dont match it cant be done I assume?
Automotive Expert
I believe the ECM number has to match with the exception of the last digit - bring both to the dealer, they will be able to tell you exactly

Thank you for your time sir
Automotive Expert
No problem - glad to help

Air conditioning leaking
I would first recommend having the air conditioning system inspected (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/heating-ac-inspection) to determine where the leak source is located. Once the leak source is found, have it repaired and have the system recharged. Depending on the type of system you...

Brake lights
If you did not check the bulbs themselves before changing the brake light switch, you might want to start there. Blown brake light bulbs (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/brake-light-bulb-replacement) can actually cause the ESC light (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/brake-warning-light-is-on-inspection) to come on, so make sure that the...

Check engine light is on 2014 chevy impala..Auto zone said it was the rocker arm..the chevy dealer said it was the throttle body..
Generally, the check engine light (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/check-engine-light-is-on-inspection) comes on when something fairly serious is going on with the vehicle. This can happen for many different reasons such as a faulty mass air flow sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/mass-airflow-sensor-replacement), a faulty O2 sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/oxygen-sensor-replacement), a...
