Q: Do I need to replace timing belt again of replacing water pump?

asked by on January 02, 2017

I just received a quote and mechanic said that I must replace timing belt if I replace water pump. Is this true?

I thought it was only recommended to replace pump, when replacing timing belt because they are more faulty.

My car has 143000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

The water pump and timing belt should be replaced as a set if the coolant leaked on the belt. The coolant leaking on it will damage the belt.
