What is the cooling system flush all about?

Your cooling system is what keeps your car from overheating. It works by circulating a mixture of water and coolant through the engine. Over time the coolant mixture becomes contaminated with scale and rust, which can clog and damage the cooling system components. A cooling system flush essentially flushes out the entire system of contaminants and replaces the coolant mixture with fresh coolant and water.

Keep in mind:

Your mechanic will drain the fluid, clean the system with coolant cleaner, and use water to remove the remaining coolant. After cleaning the system, the mechanic will fill it up with new coolant. This process is effective and an approved industry method of flushing your vehicle’s cooling system.

How it's done:

  • Install flush chemical to radiator
  • Bring the car to operating temperature
  • Drain the old coolant
  • Close valve and refill with water
  • Repeat the process
  • Fill radiator with a 50/50 mixture of coolant and water
  • Check for leaks and fan operation

Our recommendation:

  • Some vehicles are equipped with a low coolant sensing system. Should this light come on, have your vehicle inspected for leaks or other possible causes for the low coolant level.

  • Follow the service maintenance schedule provided by the manufacturer to get the coolant replaced at regular intervals. In general, it is a good practice to change the coolant every 40,000-50,000 miles.

What are the common symptoms indicating you need to flush the cooling system?

  • Check Engine warning light is on
  • Low Coolant warning light is on
  • Engine is overheating

How important is this service?

A cooling system flush is an important part of preventative maintenance and helps to keep your car healthy and on the road.

I would highly recommend Damian for his knowledge and expertise. He was willing to tackle any problem--even with my 52-year-old car. I have experienced other mechanics who either don't want to be bothered with a more difficult problem--or they simply lack the experience to handle a less frequently encountered situation.

Ben is indeed a true professional. He is diligent and not only works to repair your car, he keeps things transparent. His honesty and integrity are appreciated. He also explains things as well. He also is hard working and does not rush. He shows up on time, and stays until the job is completed. Not only that he has all the right tools too.

Oldsmobile Alero V6-3.4L - Cooling System Flush - Denver, Colorado
Jonathan just finished the needed services on my car, this is our first time using your mobile service & I am very excited about the convenience factor. Jonathan was a little quiet at first, I'm the type of person that needs to understand what is being done, but he did explain everything & turned out to be friendly, professional, & knowledgeable. I haven't tested the car yet, but have already referred a few friends & neighbors. I will give higher score after I test the car, & will schedule appointments with him as needed & as I can afford. Thank you
