What is the Door Handle or Door Latch all about?

The car has at least two door handles per door: one on the inside and another on the outside. Due to frequent use, they will eventually break down and could need repair. Sometimes the handle itself is fine, but there is a problem with the door latch assembly that prevents the door from shutting and locking properly.

Keep in mind:

  • Sometimes the visible part of the door handle needs to be replaced, and sometimes the mechanism hidden inside the door needs to be replaced.
  • If the exterior door handle doesn’t work, there’s a good chance that the interior door handle is also faulty.
  • If physical damage (such as an accident) has caused the door handle to break, there may also be damage to the door lock switch or door lock actuator.

How it's done:

  • Remove the door panel to gain access.
  • Remove and replace the broken door handle.
  • Inspect door latch and replace if not working.
  • Check door for proper operation.
  • Reinstall door panel.

Our recommendation:

As soon as you notice that your door is having difficulty opening, you should schedule an inspection. If your exterior door handle stops working entirely, stop trying to use it: trying to force the door can cause further damage. If you notice that your exterior door handle is feeling fragile, you should also schedule an inspection.

What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the Door Handle or Door Latch?

  • Door will not open.
  • Door will not shut.

How important is this service?

An exterior door handle exists so that you can open your vehicle from the outside. When the exterior door handle malfunctions, you’ll have to enter your vehicle from a different door, or keep your window rolled down so you can use the interior door handle (if it works). An exterior door handle that doesn’t work is a large nuisance to any driver.

Nissan Cube L4-1.8L - Oil Change - Victorville, California
As long as he maintains this car, tweak it to the sweet spot of ultimate functionality, I am very HAPPY Raymond's work! The car has at least over 153k miles, and it still runs like silent clock! Raymond is going to do a little work at a time before I purchase some heavy duty 4-season radial tires! And that will probably be in November! The oil change greatly helped! Thanks to Raymond! I will see him tomorrow for the NEW battery terminals and the fill up of coolant! Again, thanks for the high quality service!!!

Nissan Cube L4-1.8L - Thermostat - Fort Worth, Texas
Keith texted me to confirm my apt, and even showed up extra early. He changed my thermostat and also sprayed off my driveway for me. He was friendly, professional, and worked efficiently. I would definitely use him again in the future.

Nissan Cube L4-1.8L - Top off coolant - Victorville, California
Great work to detail, and he recommended on used tires! Ask Raymond if Tepa Jalisco Tire Shop is the one located on Union / 7th Street! I do plan to buy my used tires over there, and I will buy two at a time, and after I finish buying all the tires, then I will have Raymond rotate them and fix / repair one of the engine mounts in the engine bay! He will let me know about how much it costs for the engine mount online! Raymond does great work, guys! I will see him sometime next month!!!
