Q: Dome light not working right

asked by on February 18, 2016

The dome light in my car is not working properly. I had the headliner replaced, and now when I have the switch in the "door" position. The light stays on all of the time (doors either being open or closed). The light obviously has power, and I can manually turn it on and off. Just would like to have the light work properly in the "door" switch position so that I can see properly when it's dark out. I think the wire is now being grounded somewhere between the dash and dome light.

Hello. It sounds like whoever did your headliner either grounded some wires to the system or damaged the switch itself. The switch is most common cause of the problem you are having and a replacement of it will fix it. A certified technician should diagnose this electrical problem, but since you just had the headliner replaced, the person who did it should check to see if anything was damaged while replacing the headliner.

Would need more information on the car and engine you have but the problem sounds like a misfire from the ignition system or carburetor problems.
I have replaced the battery and alternator and the charging system light keeps popping on and then the car dies after a day or two

Does my vehicle have an oil pressure sender or oil pressure sensor or both and where is it located?

I shifted the lever to drive mode, but it goes to reverse mode. What is the problem?
You are very nearly right. There is a bowden type cable that connects the the shifter to the transmission. It has adjustable ends and one or more of those adjustments has probably worked loose. That or you might need a...
My Volvo XC 60 went into low power saver mode and the battery was already low what does this mean?
It sounds like you may have a weak battery, a failing voltage regulator or failing alternator. As you may know, the alternator charges the battery while the engine runs by generating amperage and recharging the battery while the engine turns...
