asked by on August 31, 2016

I did my own oil change and I switched to fully synthetic oil from regular. So i did the oil change and started the car, next thing i know is that i get an error message that says oil pressure is low. Then i get out of the car and saw that all my oil leaked out.

My car has 116000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Hey there. You must have gotten the oil filter double gasket from the old gasket O-ring left on and put a new filter on, and it would not let the new filter seal. Remove the oil filter and check for two O-rings and then remove one and reinstall and refill the engine. If you would like to have this scoped out, a certified pro from YourMechanic can come to your car’s location to inspect the Oil Light and determine what should be done.

Transmission does not shift properly
This kind of reaction is often a sign of low transmission fluid (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/transmission-fluid-service) or a faulty transmission control solenoid. This is something that is likely related to what is called a neutral safety switch, which prevents the vehicle from being started while in gear. I would start with having the battery load tested to see if the battery (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/battery-replacement) needs to be replaced. If the battery is good, I would then suggest having the alternator (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/alternator-replacement) checked to determine if it is receiving the...
when my car is stopped or going slow i can hear a helicopter noise. it sounds like it’s coming from the front end of my car.
If you are hearing the noise at idle when the car is not moving, generally the noise you are describing originates in the engine, the transmission (torque converter runs even at idle), and/or the accessory drives. If the sound occurs...
