The anti-lock brake system uses sensors in the wheels and other inputs to help control the wheels from sliding, locking up, and to help control the car under certain driving conditions. Issues with the system could include these sensors, any issue with brake fluid pressure, worn brake pads, and various other components. When the ABS light illuminates, it means there is an issue with the system and the computer has detected it. Thankfully the computer has detected the issue and diagnosing the exact problem will be easier. You need to have the vehicle scanned for diagnostic troubleshooting codes. Once you have the codes, look into the cause and make an appropriate repair.
