Q: Are RHD converted cars legal to drive in Nevada?

asked by on July 06, 2017

Are RHD converted cars legal to drive in Nevada, specifically Las Vegas? Either by bringing one into the state, or converting an already NV registered car.

And would the 20 year rule change the "legality" of the car?

Hi there. Having seen multiple Right Hand Drive vehicles from the UK driving on the Las Vegas strip in the past, I would assume that they are legal to drive in The State of Nevada. However, the State has undergone multiple changes in the past few years on rules and regulations for approving conversions vs. OEM applications. As such, you should contact the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles to receive accurate facts about your registering the individual vehicle.

How do I switch between the odometer and the trip odometer?
Your odometer tells you how many miles your car has driven. Your trip odometer tracks how many miles you’ve gone since last resetting the trip odometer. You can use the trip odometer to calculate how many miles you’re getting on...
What does the oil pressure Warning Light mean?
The oil pressure Warning Light is located on the instrument panel. The oil pressure Warning Light will illuminate when oil is not properly flowing into your vehicle’s engine. Usually this means that there is an insufficient amount of oil in...
Spark plug covered in oil
A fouled spark plug is a common issue with modern vehicles. Thinner oils are used to reduce friction and increase fuel economy. These thin oils in combination with a vehicle with higher mileage will cause oil to seep past the...
The car won't start after battery was overcharged. 2001 Hyundai XG300
Hello there. It sounds like you have a cloud of things going on with your Hyundai XG300. If the alternator is overcharging the battery, then there is a good chance the alternator has failed (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/alternator-replacement). Most of the time, this...
Cranks but will not start
As you already know, I would suggest testing the coil packs for spark. Try also checking the crank position sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/crankshaft-position-sensor-replacement) to be sure it is working properly. When these go bad they can often cause the coils to not...
Car chugs a couple of times wont start
Hello - it is possible that the engine "jumped time" because of the momentary loss of oil pressure after the oil change. (The fact that you changed to synthetic oil does not come into play here.) The timing chain tensioners...
2004 Nissan Altima- Won't move when the code reads p0420 on the scanner. Did my transmission go? Is it my catalytic converter like code said?
Hi there. The code P0420 (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/p0420-obd-ii-trouble-code-catalyst-system-efficiency-below-threshold-bank-1-by-jamahl-walker) means that the catalytic converter is below threshold and cannot burn off any emissions in the exhaust stream. The O2 sensors have pickup this fault and put the engine into limp mode. As for...
I have a 2002 buick rendezvous and I'm looking to possibly swap the 3400 for an lx9 3.5
The re-designed gasket (Fel-Pro, for example, in the aftermarket) for the lower intake manifold on this engine, and the revised installation procedure, provide a 100% effective resolution to the notorious leak issue that you are referring to. With regard to...
My car would not start/turn over. Found a bent push rod and replaced it. Now it will crank but shakes badly and ticks on engine
If the car engine is noisy (ticking) and you already found one bent pushrod, the likelihood is there is other damage and that additional damage accounts for the noise. You can check cylinder compression but even if cylinder compression is...
