What is the Air Injection Hose all about?

Some cars are equipped with an air injection system to reduce engine emissions. The air injection hoses inject extra air into the car’s exhaust system to convert C0 into C02. The air injection hoses deteriorate over time and need to be replaced.

Keep in mind:

When the air injection hose is replaced, the air pump should always be inspected.

How it's done:

  • Inspect the Air Injection Hoses.
  • Identify the hose that is cracked.
  • Replace the cracked hose.
  • Check the condition of the Air Pump.
  • Check valves and system hoses.

Our recommendation:

The air injection system should be inspected during routine maintenance and servicing. Any time you have a component of the air injection system replaced, the air injection hose should be checked. Air injection hoses can grow brittle and crack over time, so it’s important to have the system serviced and inspected with regularity.

What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the Air Injection Hose?

  • Check Engine light may turn on.
  • Vehicle may not pass emissions test.

How important is this service?

An air injection system is responsible for injecting extra air into your vehicle’s exhaust system. The system pulls air from outside the vehicle, and pumps it through the air injection hose, and into the exhaust system, where it helps convert carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide. If your air injection hose breaks, the necessary amount of air will not be added into the car’s exhaust system. This is unlikely to result in an immediately noticeable change in your car, but it will lower the vehicle’s emissions. A cracked or broken air injection hose means your vehicle is polluting more, and is unlikely to pass an emissions inspection.

Luis knows exactly what the issue with my car is and knows exactly how to fix it. He doesn't try and upsell me anything, he repairs only what needs repairing or replacing and doesn't try and convince me that something extraneous that needs to be done. He's a very honest and good mechanic!

Ford Mustang V6-3.8L - Starter - Hudson, Florida
As it turned out the starter was not necessary but still I chose to leave it installed. The vehicle is nearly 20 years old with only 39,800. The battery was only 2 years old but the vehicle had sat for a long time, even though the battery had a "float charger" connected. The problem was in fact the REPORT OF THE BATTERY, VOLTAGE REGULATOR AND ALTERNATER WERE ALL OK, FROM ADVANCED AUTO PARTS COMPUTER ANALYSIS RESULTS!! That left the starter being recommended by them! When the vehicle would not start in the garage, "My Mechanic" was called. Wayne reviewed the computer print out results as well as saw a battery charger/starter system connected that still was unable to start vehicle. The vehicle was pushed out of garage into the driveway where Wayne removed and replaced the original starter. When trying to start, it did the same as before the new starter was installed! Wayne jumped started the vehicle with his vehicle and it started perfectly! Wayne offered to remove the new starter and replace the old one (for just the labor cost of $70) but realizing that starter was nearly 20 years old I chose to leave it installed. I went to BATTERIES + store, where they checked the battery that A.A.Parts just checked and they stated it has only 225 AMPS of cranking current power instead of the 550 AMPS the battery should have. New battery was installed by them, NO FURTHER PROBLEMS!! Buyer beware of what Advanced Auto Parts tells you, even with their computer equipment!!!!!!!!!!!!!
