A Buyer’s Guide to the 2012 Ford Fusion

ford fusion

Choosing a mid-size sedan for your family can be a tough call. There’s a lot of competition out there, including really popular models like the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. Among all those, though, the 2012 Ford Fusion really stands out as a quality vehicle with a lot of great perks and features.

Key Features

Available in the S and SE models for both the Fusion Sport and the Fusion SEL, the SYNC audio and communications system is an incredible feature. It’s voice-activated and can help you with navigation, emergencies, vehicle diagnostic reports, and other helpful services.

In addition to a voice-activated infotainment center like no other, the 2012 Fusion a smooth six-speed automatic transmission for both its four- and six-cylinder engine options.

Changes for 2012

If you’re interested in the SE trim variant of the 2012 Fusion, you’ll love the standard six-speed automatic transmission and the new 17” wheels.

What We Like

While the 2012 Ford Fusion is both reliable and safe, it also has plenty of power and a slightly edgy aesthetic. Because of this, it appeals to older and younger drivers, alike.

What Concerns Us

It’s not the least expensive car in its class, and some of the more economically friendly models out there have a lot of the same features that the Fusion has. However, most of them don't have the same track record as Ford.

Available Models

The standard engine in the 2012 Ford Fusion is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 175 HP at 6000 RPM and 172 lb-ft of torque at 4500 RPM. It’s also rated at 22/30 MPG (city/highway) for the version with SelectShift automatic transmission.

If you want more power and torque, you can also opt for one of two V6 versions, one of which can use Flex-Fuel. Both of these engines have more muscle under the hood, but they both also suffer in the fuel economy department.

Major Recalls

Some 2012 Ford Fusion V6 models have been recalled because their steering assist systems may shut down unexpectedly. This issue can be resolved with any Ford dealer.

Common Issues

Some owners have reported that the 2012 Ford Fusion jerks when shifting and/or hesitates between shifts. Others have reported issues with throttle body failure or loss of power while driving, though these cases are much less frequent.
