What is the Console Light Bulb all about?

The console light bulb is designed to provide a small amount of light to aid in finding items stored in the center console. The console light bulb is mounted inside the console and protected by a plastic lens. A small switch is activated when the console is closed, shutting the bulb off. When the console is opened again, this switch energizes the bulb and illuminates the inside of the console.

Just as the dome light works for your security when the door is opened, the console light provides security for belongings and keeps articles visible and easy to retrieve from the center console.

Keep in mind:

  • The console light bulb is important because it illuminates belongings in the center console when opened.
  • The console light bulb aids in finding items stored in the center console at night.

How it's done:

  • The console light bulb is verified that it needs to be replaced. The console is removed for access as required.
  • The defective console light bulb is removed from its socket cavity by pulling out or with a quarter turn.
  • The new console light bulb is installed in reverse order. The console is then reinstalled,
  • The console light bulb is tested for operation.
  • The vehicle is tested to ensure proper operation of the console lights.

Our recommendation:

If you suspect the console light bulb has failed, or is about to fail, ask one of our expert mechanics to inspect it and replace the part if necessary. There are several possible causes to a failed console light bulb, such as a blown fuse or rusty connector. Our expert mechanic will determine the cause, replace the bulb, and make sure the part is working correctly.

What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the Console Light Bulb?

  • Interior of center console does not illuminate when opened
  • Console light bulb only works intermittently

How important is this service?

While the console light bulb may seem like an optional item to some drivers, a traffic check point or urgent situation may require you to be able to see and find your belongings quickly. Have the center console light replaced at your earliest convenience.

Ford Thunderbird V8-5.8L - labor - Azusa, California
This was David's fourth visit to help me with a rather large "To Do" list on my Tbird. The project this time was to install a cooling fan in front of the AC condenser. He had told me on another visit what size to order. When I rec'd it, I said to myself, "No way is this gonna fit." David shows up and he says, "Piece of cake." He pulls the radiator, grinds off a little hidden sheet metal, and adjusts the tabs holding the condenser. When he's finished, it looks like a factory install. The guy is amazing! We're already planning item #18 on the list. Generator to alternator conversion. Another "Piece of cake".

Joel is pleasant, patient, thorough and will stay until the job is done even if unexpected problems arise - like when some the parts ordered in advance for the job were somehow missing. He went and got them and finished up.

Hello, so. I recently bought a 2nd hand car. there was a strong smell of a mixture of things including smoke. also a broken ac compressor. I replaced the seats, cleaned the carpets and once aired out there's not much smell. When I drive however, the smell becomes more prominent, it's a smell that makes me feel somewhat sleepy/unpleasent like my bodies not supposed to breath it in. Does this sound like the A/C? I assumed so and so used a A/C cleaning spray in the part where the cabin filter goes, the outside intake and up the drain bit under the glovebox (mazda 3, 2014). The smell seemed to go.I noticed however, even though I had the A/C running for 20-30 mins there wasn't as much water draining on the bottom as I thought, maybe 10ml. Also today (24 hours later) I went for a drive and the smell is coming back a little.what do you think is causing the smell? How should I fix it? Do you think my a/c drain is slightly blocked, or maybe the tray isn't tilted correctly (handyman at work mentioned something about a tray)? A bit lost with what to do!Sorry for the long story! ThanksBruno
