A Buyer’s Guide to the 2012 Acura MDX

Acura MDX 2012

The Acura MDX is one of the favorite SUV among consumers. It has room enough for seven passengers, has great handling, and is accommodating to all types of weather conditions. With its advanced technology and performance capability, it is one of the premium midsize SUVs available on the market.

Key Features

The MDX has a 3.7 liter 6 cylinder V6 engine that offers 300hp. City driving offers 16 mpg while highways driving will get you 21 mpg. An all-wheel drive system, leather seats, and 18 inch alloy wheels come standard on this vehicle. In addition, heated front seats, a Bluetooth hands free phone, and a rear view camera also come standard.

Changes for 2012

No changes were made for the 2012 model of the Acura MDX.

What We Like

If you like power and usability in a midsize SUV, you will love the Acura MDX. The vehicle handles very well both on the road and off-road. It is fun to drive around town but still has the option for going down a muddy trail if you want to experience something different. It takes corners well, while still maintaining its stability. The SUV can also tow up to 5,000 pounds with the Trailer Stability Assist feature.

What Concerns Us

Similar vehicles in the same category, such as the Buick Enclave and the Lexus RX 350, offer comparable features that come with more comfort.

Available Models

The Acura MDX comes in three different packages, the base package, the technology package, and the advance packages. Each one has the same 3.7liter V6 engine along with the same gas mileage. The technology package offers voice activated navigation, Bluetooth audio streaming, upgraded audio with a USB port, and 15 GB of media storage. The advance package includes the technology package plus a sport suspension, ventilated front seats, and 19 inch alloy wheels.

Major Recalls

In February of 2012, the Acura MDX vent shut float valve case was found not to meet design specifications so it was recalled. This can cause a fuel leak which will increase the risk of fire.

Common Issues

A common complaint for the Acura MDX is a rumbling and vibration sound as the vehicle accelerates. Another grievance is the backup camera not being bright enough to see during night, causing issues and concerns for those who commonly use the camera. Consumers have also complained the power driver seat stopped working shortly after it was purchased.
