A Buyer’s Guide to the 2012 Kia Rio

Kia Rio 2012

The Kia Rio has a new style and look for to attract buyers and compete in the subcompact car ranks. It offers outstanding fuel economy with great value that has a nice price tag for a variety of budgets. The Rio is fun to drive on the highway and in the city. Even with its small size, the vehicle is comfortable to ride in while still having a sporty feel. The seats are comfortable and road noise is minimal, which also makes for a nice drive. Whether you are looking for a family vehicle or something to drive around two, the Kia Rio offers good fuel economy with a touch of luxury.

Key Features

The Rio comes with a 1.6 liter inline four cylinder engine that offers 138hp. It will get you around 29 mpg while driving in the city and 37 mpg while driving on the highway. It has a six speed automatic transmission along with USB input, air conditioning, and steering wheel controls for the speakers. Power windows and door locks are optional and do not come standard.

Changes for 2012

The Kia Rio has lowered its price along with being available in a five door hatchback or a four door sedan. A new engine was also added along with technology features that everyone will love.

What We Like

The look of the Kia Rio really sets it apart from its competitors, such as the Honda Fit, Hyundai Accent, and the Ford Fiesta. The list of available features is impressive as well, which include a navigation system, Bluetooth, push button start, rear view camera, leather seating, and a voice-activated infotainment system. While these do not come standard, it is nice to have them as an option.

What Concerns Us

The Honda Fit and Ford Fiesta offer a little more when it comes to cargo capacity and driving fun. The Rio is a well-rounded car, but it just does not stand up to its competitors in these areas.

Available Models

The Kia Rio offers an SX Premium Package which has a push button start with a Smart Key, leather surfaces, navigation system, a moonroof, and heated seats. The ECO package include the Idle Stop and Go technology for even more fuel efficient driving.

Major Recalls

There are no recalls for the 2012 Kia Rio.

Common Issues

Common consumer complaints include the air conditioning not working, the engine light turning on, poor fuel economy, and the key/remote breaking.
