My husband and I had never used Your Mechanic, and we chose to use their service to fix our car after a friend of ours saw the site and recommended it to us. I am sooooo happy we did! Phillip was a complete professional from beginning to end. He came to our home twenty minutes before the scheduled time, and did not stop until the job was done. He was friendly, well spoken, informative about the work that was done, and we saved a LOT of money by using this company. I would refer anyone in need of car repair to this company, and in this particular town, I would suggest using Phillip if he's available! :) He's worth a tip. Thanks again, Phillip. You're awesome. If you're reading this because you need repair and you're wondering if this is legit... Your Mechanic is worth your time. - Mike and Christy

YourMechanic is the best auto sevice we have used! The Administrative staff answered all of my questions with a nice mix of professionalism, and kindness. I needed my truck fixed asap as I work an on-call position in the operating room. Your company had my truck fixed within 24 hr's of my quote request! Not only did this save me from an expensive car rental. But it also saved me a towing fee, and a over-priced repair. Your quote was at least 25% lower than any other repair price that I could find. Your mechanic, Erick, was extremely was great. Very nice, knowledgeable, and had a great sense of humor. He left me with the impression that he really loves his work and the company he works for. Makes me want to keep him as my personal mechanic for any future work, although I'm sure you have a lot of good employees, as a manager myself, he has all the qualities of a star employee! I will definitely be using your service for future repairs. From the Administration to my door, you are the best I've found! Thank you so much for your fast, friendly service. Alternator Repair Service

How does an alternator help your car run?

The alternator is the component that charges the battery in your car. When you use electrical components in your car (stereo, lights, etc.), the battery loses power. The alternator recharges the battery, replenishing the lost battery power. The alternator is located in the engine compartment. If the alternator is not working properly, your car will only stay running for as long as the battery has power stored. Once the battery loses power, your car will not start. Normally, a malfunctioning alternator will turn on the battery warning light or will have a low volt gauge reading.

Alternator

Before repairing the alternator:

The mechanic should check the entire charging system before installing a new alternator, including checking battery cables for corrosion and the condition of the battery.

Steps when replacing an alternator:

  • Inspect entire charging system (battery, cables, alternator).
  • Inspect the drive belts.
  • Test alternator output.
  • Remove and replace alternator if found to be faulty.
  • Re-test alternator output.

Our recommendation for alternator replacements:

Ask your mechanic to inspect the condition of the charging system during every major service. The mechanic should also clean and tighten the battery cables during every major service.

What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the Alternator?

  • Dead battery or battery will not hold a charge.
  • Dim lights.
  • Battery warning light is on.

Why repairing your alternator is important:

Your alternator charges your battery, which powers the electronics in your vehicle, such as the radio and the air conditioning. The battery is also needed to turn on your vehicle. A malfunctioning alternator will not charge your car’s battery, and your vehicle will eventually run out of battery life and not be able to start.
