He showed up on time, explained what he was going to do and why and did it in the time he said it would take. He was friendly and easy to work with.
Very knowledgeable and took the time to explain why the axle slipped out. I will be using him again. He was quick and professional and after a bad experience with a mobile mechanic through another company, I am happy to say I have faith in mobile mechanics again.
He's a very nice guy and is professional, and tries hard but the service wasn't able to be completed...and I still had to pay a fee.
I was hoping not to write a review at all because I didn't want to give Chris a bad rating, but... CONS: 1. Time Efficiency: What was supposed to be a 3-4 hour job turned into an 8-hour first day and about 5-6 hours the next day. First, he parked on the street and my car was in my garage (about 90 feet away) and every time a socket wrench didn't fit he went back to his truck for another size. He did this repeatedly. I suggested he park his truck in the driveway but he said he didn't want to have his truck leak on the driveway and he needed the exercise. Suggestion: Bring ALL your tools you need in a toolbox. Get your exercise at the gym. This alone probably added 90 minutes to the whole process. Also, I ended up needing an additional part because he damaged it during removal. This caused the job to go onto the next day. He could have anticipated this actually (as I read about this repair online) and had the part just in case and returned it later if he didn't need it. 2. Quality of Parts: I paid $150 for a NEW CV Axle. What I got was a re-built one. When I pointed that out he stated a new one would cost way much more. Advanced Auto Parts has it NEW for $99. I was willing to overlook this because Goodyear wanted over $200 for a new one...and who knows what they end up putting in there. 3. Quality of Work: He (literally) hammered the one of the parts in order to remove the old axle so much that it resulted in damaging where the wheel goes back on after the "new" axle was installed. He couldn't get the wheel back on and I had to lend him a metal file from my tools in order to file it down so the wheel could fit back on (this took probably 2 hours). He also somehow stripped the threads on the lug nut stems (maybe from catching the threads with the file or hammering). He only was able to get 4 of the 5 lug nuts back on. He took one of MY lug nuts with him and said he'd order new parts. Also, I can hear a "whirring" from the axle that was installed. It's probably only noticeable by me since I know my car sounds. 4. Reliability: When he took one of my lug nuts he gave me his personal cell phone number and promised me that he'd come back and fix the threads/lugs after he received the parts. It's been a month now. I've texted him several times. The first text was about a week after and he responded he was "just waiting for the parts". I waited another 2 weeks and did not hear from him so I texted again and he didn't reply. Texted again the next day and he replied, "give me a sec sir. I'm in a meeting." I think he probably thought I was someone else who was probably bugging him. I gave it another day and didn't hear back. 2 days later I called him and left a voice mail...no reply. 5. Preparedness: So, this job requires re-installing transmission fluid if it leaks out during the work. It did. After installing the axle, he had to search online on his phone (at about 8 O'Clock at night on a Sunday) where to find where to add the fluid in my car. Then, once he found the spot tried to use a funnel that didn't fit, so he scrounged through his truck to find some kind of tube and came up with a metal piece of tubing. I gave him a medical syringe to use which he did. Is there not a specific tool to do this with? Geez. PROS: 1. He did the repair and so far the axle hasn't fallen off. 2. Cheaper than taking the car in to a garage. (But not if your time matters to you. I was a hostage in my house for the whole weekend. Same perhaps if I took the car to a shop but you can't go anywhere when a stranger has access to your home.) BOTTOM LINE: I would never use this service again unless it was a very minor repair. What if the guy decided not to come back the second day? I'd have to scramble to reach yourmechanic or rent a car. I'm sure yourmechanic isn't going to send a second mechanic on a Sunday night especially. I had to go to work on Monday. If I do use yourmechanic again I'll be asking for a different mechanic. I almost didn't write this review because I kind of liked Chris and felt a little sorry for him for bungling the whole thing and he seemed like a nice guy...and he came on Father's Day weekend (to his credit). Unfortunately he blew me off on the lug nuts by not getting back to me after a month.
