Had the mechanic come out to my workplace because my car had been difficult to start for 3 weeks and I didn’t want to take the time to go to a shop. I was told I needed my battery replaced and that when he came out the next day to do it, he would bring a fuel pressure testing kit with him because “if problem persists after replacement recommend fuel pressure test”. I decided to get two second opinions and both said my battery was fine but I needed a new alternator. Replaced the alternator and my car has been starting and running great for over a month now. The 50-point inspection that I was told would be done at the time of service was inaccurate and I suspect was not even done. I would have been fine it the mechanic simply skipped the safety inspection but instead I received bad information. Many people would have trusted what the report said which is why it bothers me so much ( I’m a RN and work with elderly patients, glad it was not one of them) Report stated: tire pressure “32psi” (actual psi 22 -27 all 4 tires). Oil level “normal” (I keep oil in my trunk and added 2 and ½ quarts later that day…), engine oil leaks “No leak” (my engine leaks oil everywhere--hence the case of it I keep in my trunk). Other things were fudged but as these examples are so obvious and easy to check, if they were wrong why would I trust anything else reported. Customer service was slow to respond, and I had to call multiple times before they did. I was simply told “the inspection is done as a courtesy” which did nothing to address the gross inaccuracies reported. Company and mechanic untrustworthy
